Mobile payment for rural areas

A few banks have introduced apps which can pay without the need for plastic or cash. However, apps are not useful to the majority of Indian people who have feature phones, not smartphones. Nokia, who provide the majority of phones to India, attempts to make mobile payment accessible to more people. They have just launched a mobile payment service called Nokia Money, for feature phones.

In rural India, many people do not have a smartphone, computer, a bank account, or credit and debit cards. Nokia Money allows these people to pay bills, buy tickets, or top up their mobile phone. An advanced version also facilitates sending money to other users, paying retailers, and using the service as an ATM. All that is necessary is a Nokia phone, and to visit an authorised Nokia retailer, who can embed the service on the phone. Then they can pay cash to the agent, and get digital cash transferred to their phone via an instant SMS message.

Nokia are also trialling Nokia Money on NFC (Near Field Communication) devices. In this instance, the Nokia Money merchant must purchase a NFC-enabled smartphone, such as a the Nokia 701 or the Blackberry 9790, to act as the active device. The customer does not need an NFC enabled handset, but can purchase an NFC tag, and their phone will act as the passive device in the money transfer.

The service had a successful beta launch in areas such as Pune, Nashik and Chandigarh. Its continued success will depend on awareness and acceptance by rural communities. It also relies on good mobile networks, which do not proliferate throughout rural India (call drops, lack of network and unsent SMSes are common). However, the basic idea of bringing simple mobile payment to large areas currently cut off from such benefits has many benefits, and early trials such as Nokia Money are surely stepping stones towards thorough and efficient implementation.

How to Choose the Best Cable Television Service for Quality Entertainment

Let’s admit it, we’re a nation of TV addicts. Pretty much every one of us watches TV every day – and with the improved quality of transmission, plus the extraordinary number of channels we can receive, the choice of cable TV or satellite TV service we make is crucial.

When you’re choosing satellite TV providers the first thing you need to be concerned with is budget. There’s no point in buying the best, most expensive package (you can pay a couple of hundred pounds or dollars for a top package every month) if you’re not going to be able to make the payments. So start by setting yourself a budget.

Now comes the hard part. Budget in hand, it’s time to trawl the various satellite TV providers’ offerings and see which ones make your viewing mouth water.

Be aware that some providers offer certain channels in HD, while others don’t – so in other words, you could have your favourite shows in high definition if you go with supplier a but if you choose supplier b instead you may end up having to settle for those channels in normal quality. Also, of course, there are satellite channels that are proprietary to the company supplying you with the signal – so think about whether proprietary programming from a given satellite TV provider is something you can’t do without.

The type of subscription that you select dictates the type of satellite decoder you receive – and you can also find some pretty good deals for viewing equipment as well. If you’re looking to drag your viewing experience into the future, then shopping around to see if you can get cut prices on new TV sets at the same time as hooking your home up to your new satellite service can be a very good idea.

It’s not just the viewing equipment that could entice you into a more wide ranging entertainment choice, either. Plenty of satellite TV providers are now delivering full communications packages, offering you phone and internet as well.

The advantages to getting all of your communications through your satellite TV provider are twofold, based in cost and end user experience. The convenience of having a single monthly bill for everything is pretty obvious – and you’ll probably save money too, by consolidating your service provision into that one payment. If your three communications services come from three different suppliers, you end up paying the hidden charges (the extra cost in each bill that goes towards general maintenance of that company’s transmission equipment, for example) three times over.

The second advantage is all about convenience. The three services – TV, phone and internet – are all delivered using identical technology. Which means, when you have all three coming to you from the same satellite TV provider, that the ways in which you consume that technology change. A triple play package gets your TV talking to your phone and your internet talking to both of them.

So if you fancy enjoying not just satellite TV stations, but all your streamed online content on a new HDTV, then shopping for the right satellite TV package is crucial. Make sure you take the time to compare packages before signing yourself in to one.

How to Expand The Writing on Your Blog

As bloggers, we all know the importance of publishing a consistent flow of posts, delivered in a way that our audience will appreciate or find comfortably familiar. But occasionally our posts become too familiar and too comfortable. Despite delivering consistent content, your readers are now finding it too bland and are not even sure if it's worth reading.

Diversifying Your Content

Luckily there are a variety of ways to freshen your content and break the monotony of you normal posts. You might actually be surprised at just how many types of blog posts you can write. From basic (but effective) blog posts to really outside-the-box posts, there is always a way to diversify your content.

The Basic Pillars of Content

It's important to consider the basic types of blog posts because it's definitely possible that your blog might be lacking or missing one or more of them. These types of blog posts are standard for a reason. They're simple and effective and often provide content that readers really want. The basic types of blog posts include the following:
  • Instructional – Obviously this post can be extremely popular and valuable. It is one of the most useful types of posts, can bring in new readers, and keep your audience loyal and wanting more of your blog.
  • Informational – Another very straightforward but potentially valuable post, informational posts do as their name suggests. Depending on what topic your providing information for, these posts have huge potential to explode into popularity. Even if they aren't the most popular, loyal readers love solid informational posts.
  • Lists – While this post has become extremely common, lists are very flexible and offer very precise information that doesn't waste the reader's time. Be it a "top ten" or "five favorite," lists are a great way to organize ideas and content.
  • Reviews – Not every blog topic is appropriate for review posts, but if you can, reviews are great. They are highly valuable, bring in tons of search traffic, and are also fairly easy to write.

Unique Posts

Sometimes you have to go beyond the basics and spice things up with some of the less common and more creative posts. It is possible to write a blog with entirely unique types of posts; deciding how many basic and how many unique types of posts is right for your blog really comes down to what type of information you want to deliver and the preferences of your audience.
  • Resource Posts – If you've done some great research, resource posts can be amazing to your blog and your readers. Essentially, these posts highlight a bunch of blog and other online resources that you consider valuable to the topic of your blog.
  • Interviews – Interview posts (or Q&As, depending on how your format it) are simply not done enough in the blogging world. Bringing an authoritative point of view onto your blog is an excellent way to give your blog more credibility and versatility.
  • Research Posts – Another underused type of post in the blogosphere are research posts. I'm talking about original research here, in which a blogger tests a hypothesis through a systematic approach that hasn't been attempted or published before. Research can consist of surveying bloggers or readers, monitoring blog statistics, or anything that you can manage to quantify accurately really.
  • Stream of Consciousness Posts – These highly unique posts give you a way to clear your mind or "idea flush" while also creating content. Essentially you write continuously for a set period of time without editing. Just let your mind wander (and try to stay on the topic of your blog). You'd be surprised by the amount of creative ideas you can gather for you blog. It may even give your blog a new direction.

3 Applications that Make Life Infinitely Easier

If you are anything like me, you know how difficult life's minutae can be sometimes. Whether it's keeping track of your finances, or doing something as simple as setting reminders and scheduling your time, technology is advancing at such a fast clip that it is making those annoying chores in life easier and more doable. Here are a few of my favorites:
  1. Split The Rent:-
Split the Rent is one of my favorite online tools that I found out about recently. If you live with more than just yourself, and your roommates are sharing costs, this site makes it easy for you to keep track of all your split expenses. You can add whatever expense you want, and you can split it evenly or according to whatever percentage criteria you select. Not only does Split the Rent help you keep track of expenses like rent and utilities, but it also enables you to keep a running tab on random, non-recurrent expenses. For example, if you picked up some food to-go for your housemates, you can add that expense into the system. You and your partners will get frequent email reminders, so you'll never get upset with your roommates over money issues again.

  2. Ever Note:-
Ever Note is a mammoth of a technology product, simply because there is very little that it cannot do when it comes to helping you remember and organize every single item or task in your life. Ever Note served me particularly well in college, as it is essentially a note-taking device that enables you to archive and organize all your thoughts. You can also take snapshots of anything with text in it--even handwritten notes--and Ever Note converts the text so that you can search for it in your database. If you find yourself always losing things, just take a note, and never be the absent-minded person you once were.

  3. iFitness:-
I'm one of the laziest people in the world, but like everyone, I still need to get my exercise in to stay as healthy as I can, especially as I get older. At the same time, it's hard for me to keep track of my exercise schedule, to be sure that I am on top of things and exercising consistently. And exercising on a regular, scheduled basis is the only way to reap any benefits from exercise. iFitness made this scheduling and workout process possible. On the main menu, iFitness has specialized workouts for any type of person, according to fitness level and part of the body that you want to exercise. What's more, it helps you keep track of what you've accomplished on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.

While, of course, there are tons of apps out there that make life more convenient, these I've found to be the most useful for me personally. If you are aware of other areas in your life that could be helped by application technology, then do a quick search, and you'll realize that yes, there's an app for that. There's an app for everything.
